Playing browser games on a Chromebook

Choose browser games with keyboard or pointer controls, check device requirements and troubleshoot loading on a Chromebook. No separate game app installation.

Start with the controls you have

A browser game opens on its game page without a separate game app. A Chromebook still needs to download the game's assets over the internet. Choose a game with keyboard or pointer controls that suit your device, and read its device notes before pressing Play.

Keyboard puzzles to consider

These catalog games list keyboard controls. They are starting points to try, not a certification that every Chromebook model has been tested.

Sharing one keyboard

For local sports matches, both people use the same computer. Basket Random lists W for Player 1 and Up Arrow for Player 2. Confirm the selected mode's instructions inside the player.

Check 3D and publisher players separately

Hardware, browser settings and publisher loading can affect a larger 3D game. A desktop keyboard label does not promise that a specific Chromebook will run a game well. Physical ChromeOS hardware has not been tested in this review.

If a game does not start

Click inside the player for keyboard focus, let its first download and any publisher ad finish, and check that the game supports the input available. On a managed school or work device, permitted sites depend on that organization's rules.
